How long is thier memory?

Post by Guest » Sun Mar 12, 2006 11:30 pm

Just so everyone knows, there was apparently some confusion.

My dad is John, he was talking through my account because he found this debate interesting.

I'm Lakota, so there for the posts ending with Lakota are me, the ones with John are my dad.

Thanks!

hehe, A lot of times when I right, it is all just stream of thought.

As for psychiatry, it was founded by old freud. There It doesnt have any scentific basis at all, and yet it is still practiced. One thing that has been found out is that often times, just talking about the problem helps, if it is internal. Not all therapies work all the time, but some therapies work, some of the time. This is the case with the freudian model. Part of my problem with psychiatry is that they are medical doctors, who get their training in Psychiatry after they graduate from medical school, in residancy. So there is a year at most training in it, and often times isnt very science based. THere are exceptions, and many psychiatrists do great work, but that doesnt change that the freudian model has no scientific basis....

Nothing like rambling....

As for the studies of phenomenon, just because one studies, or looks into something, does not mean that an explanation is provided, it is almost like an aknowlegment of the subject. To attribute a cause to something, and that cause cannot be studied, I believe, is ethically wrong. As that attribution becomes a matter of faith. Instead, a proper hypothesis should at least be testable. (I hope I am not digging myself into a logical hole here, lol).

I too, hope to not offend anyone, although this whole portion of the thread should be moved to the chit-chat forum, as it has progressed away form anything involving LHCs.

What a very Freudian comment. HAHA.

I'm just not following your logic here, may be I'm getting tired.

I have never heard the term "Freudian psychiatry" I have always heard, "Freudian phychology". I'm not sure what analyzing dreams, memories ectera has to do with perscirbing medications. It sounds like your contradicting yourself a bit when you say, it can work, but it's unfortunate that it's practiced. Cars can kill when when used irresponsibly also, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be used. You say acknowleging something gets one to work it out, but what is that if not the subconscious at work?

All thoughts are intangible, brain waves, energy, chemicals can be identified, but connecting them to thoughts and feelings cannot be studied under a mircoscrope, couldn't one then say any study of the mind at all is just a bunch of "causes that cannot be studied?" I don't get you.

EDIT: My spelling is getting wose and worse here.
