How Long Can They Hold Their Breath?

I don't think any apology is necessary here, as Mormegil made a more accurate scientific explaination.
I was trying to be utterly simple...because for some of us, its easier to understand that hermit crabs use the oxygen found in water (bonded or not)...for me its easier to relate to humidity. In Mormegils first post he/she said the same thing I did, but then went on to clarify later.

Its all good and were all better now...no need to drag out the miscommunications ;)

Mission Statement:

It is our mission to:

Dispel the myth of the 'throw away pet' and disassociate this label from land hermit crabs.

Educate the public on the proper care of land hermit crabs.

Provide a forum for sharing information and educating new hermit crab enthusiasts.

Campaign for the humane treatment of land hermit crabs from the time they are harvested, throughout their lifespan.

Work in conjunction with retailers to provide proper in-store care and accurate customer caresheets.

Raise awareness of the mistreatment of land hermit crabs and the thousands of resulting deaths.

It is our hope to attain our goals in a nonconfrontational manner, inspired by an atmosphere of cooperation.
This is not one of those forums where people criticize or flame others for their explanations . . . most of our membership are laymen, not scientists. Our descriptions of observations are not limited to scientific terms. Let's keep it civil and respectful at all times. :)
