Does the temperature of the water matter when soaking new items? Is there a benefit or drawback to the water used being hot or cold?

I always use hot, but I'm not really sure it matters - in my mind, hot water=cleaner but it could just be psychological.

That was my thinking too, so just wanted to check and make sure there wasn't something I didn't know about it. Thank you!

I usually boil, then soak in new room temperature water until I remember to take it out. I feel like boiling loosens stuff up. (:

I boiled all my shells and anything that had been used previously, but have been just soaking the newly bought stuff.
