HCA: Hermit Crab Association

My 10g is getting too small for my 2 crabs and I'm having a hard time finding a 20g for cheap with a mesh lid... Any suggestions? Also, for a 20g what size lid would I need? I just don't want my guys overcrowded you know, my big crab loves to move around a lot! Sorry if this post is in the wrong place...

Have you tried Craigslist or second hand stores like good will?

Ah, too bad Petco's $1-per-gallon sale just ended on Saturday! Regarding getting the right size mesh lid: there are two different 20g tanks, 20gs are 24" long and 20Ls are 30" long -- mesh lids are sold for both so, if you're picking up a used tank, measure it before shopping for a lid! If you check out craigslist, search under both "aquariums" and "terrariums" as the latter often come with lids as they had been used for lizards or snakes.

Try Facebook Buy/sell/trade groups for your area. I find outrageous deals on stuff there. Some places have multiple groups and some have specific animal ones. It even lets you set up alerts now that will notify you when what you want gets posted. It's a pain searching through 10 pages, but the prices are so worth it.

Personally, the $1 a gallons sales for the tank and then BST for the lid has been my best option for smaller tanks. I got the tank for $20 and the lid for $5.
