Hygrometer Challenge
So I have a little dial temp-Hygr and a digital one. I calibrated and seen where the differences were, but over the last month they seemed to really change again between the two of them. So I had read on these boards about the National Geographic Hydro/Temp for $20.00 and bought that. I calibrated that and the other digital one together in the air tight container and they both said 90+ % after 7 hours!!! That's a BIG difference from 75%. Any ideas of what is going on? At a 20% difference I don't trust either. I want one that is Acurrate. I am so concerned about my little guys. This morning between the three meters I had 63%-76% and 94%...This is just stressing me.
Re: Hygrometer Challenge
When I calibrated my latest Acurite, the humidity topped out at 68% after 5+ hours in the sealed container so another 7 points would have to be mentally added to the readings it would give in the tank; however, in the tank it usually reads in the high 90%s without the 7 point addition. At least I'm sure that the actual humidity is over 80% so it's all good.
One of our members recently bought a probe thermometer/hygrometer from Reptile Basics (http://www.reptilebasics.com/thermometers/TH-100/) and has nothing but good words to say about it. The unit itself stays outside of the tank so there's no issue with moisture causing degradation of unit (a problem with the digital Acurite). This is the one that I'll buy next as it seems to give an accurate reading at all times.

Re: Hygrometer Challenge
That's how the one I got from National Geographic is. I had really high hopes for it. It sets outside the tank with 2 probes on the inside. I just have no idea what the actual reading is....
Thx for your help. Will look into the Reptile Basics.

Re: Hygrometer Challenge
Hey guys, thanks for this post. I often have terrible trouble with humidity gauges myself, and it is a nerve wracking feeling to not know.....i actually have learned over time to know if temps/humidity is in acceptable ranges by just sticking my hand in the tank, but still not at all the same as KNOWING, especially with my straws they are always on the UTH side, so I worry.... I love the idea of the Reptile Basics one being outside the tank. I've been through 2 gauges in the last 2 months, next one I buy will be Reptile Basics!

Thanks, Crabinski! FYI, still loving my therm/hygro from Reptile Basics!
Two thumbs up!
Tried to post a pic just earlier today before even seeing this but still don't know how to make the syntax work. If I can't figure it out I'll post a separate question on it.
