What salt levels will burn crabs?

I just re-checked my math and the ratios i used to figure out how much salt to add to my water. Instant Ocean says to use 1/cup for every gallon. I have a 32oz or 4 cup jar that i keep my water in. By my calculation that is 8 Tablespoons or 24 Teaspoons. That seems too much for crabs. That much salt wont even dissolve in the jar.

Also for my Prime Water Purifier it says i need 5ml to every 50 us gallons. Again i use a 32oz or 4cup jar that calculates (if im right down to .025ml. How do i even measure that? Currently i am just doing, like drops.

My mom will be taking over my hermit crab tank while i am on an internship and since she cant eyeball it i want to give her proper amounts.

1/2 Cup = 8 tablespoons (4 Tbs = 1/4 cup), so Instant Ocean is recommending 8 Tablespoons per gallon.

There are 4 cups in a quart and 4 quarts in a gallon. Since you are using a quart of water, you should only be using 1/4 the amount of salt you would use in a gallon, or 2 Tablespoons I.O. salt per quart of purified water. There will probably be a little salt left undissolved even at this level.

As for the ratio of water purifier, it will be practically impossible for you to get an accurate dose with that product in the amount you want to make, maybe try another product? I use BettaSafe by Tetra, one of the products recommended in the Food and Water forum under the thread about water treatment.

It requires 7 drops to 1 gallon of water, which is close enough to two drops per quart. Much easier amouints to work with than 0.025 mL.

Thank you so much i new something in there was wrong lol. And yeah i know about bettasafe i just had a bad experience with it killing one of my bettas so personally i dont want to give them any more support with that product. But thank you.

Instant Ocean is 1/2 C per gallon. SeaChem Prime is 2 drops per gallon of water, up to 5 if the water is heavily chlorinated.
