Cholla wood molding?

Hi so I was looking around in my hermit crab tank and I noticed some white, stringy mold in my new cholla wood. I just now changed my substrate to Eco earth and added some sheet moss. How do I get rid of the mold? Anything that I can do so the mold won't grow back?

What has worked best for me is making a paste from slightly wetted sea salt mix and scrub it down with this paste w/o rinsing. It dries clear (although with a slight dullness to it), it won't hurt the crabs and no more mold. Some people will soak wood in salt water for days (which I always do as well) and yet I would still get mold.

My humidity is typically at 90% or higher and I didn't get mold on any of the wood in my tank. I suggest the same as what you said but also recommend keeping the ends off the substrate if possible. Mine is not touching the substrate because of where it is. The cholla that I had before that touched the substrate started to soften and if I left it in it most likely would have molded. Cork doesn't typically mold either so it is a great option if you have mold issues regularly.

Good point about the cork. I don't think I've ever had cork get mold.

So should I do the saltwater paste with all the wood I have in my tank?

It definitely won't hurt anything to try. You can also spray the mold with saltwater to treat it if/when it pops up.
