Moving Hermit Crabs

I'm going to be moving from Colorado to Minnesota at the end of the month. Is there anything special I should do when it comes to moving the crabs and the tank?

If you haven't been to Minnesota before, remember it's still cold here and you might need some extra heat. But from what I hear Colorado has some crazy weather changes so you might be prepared already hahahah

I have heat pretty much sorted out but what I'm wondering is, would it better to have the tank closer on hand like in the car with me or would be it fine if I were to put everything in the moving truck.

Unfortunately I do not know that one.. personally since I only have 4 crabs I would probably use my smaller tank to transport them together in with me in the car

I would definitely put them in the car. I would not trust them with my crabs.

Well in the idealist world it probably better to have the tank with you. Pretty much the first thing you want to do is set up the tank - ASAP - as it's their "life support". The tank provides them with the perfect conditions that they need and require. So for that reason, I'd say to take the tank with you. (Plus the tank is a great place to store clothes/blankets/other soft things, and help minimise damage) Not to mention the moving truck is a move truck, who knows what type of driver you will get. If the tank with you you will be able to minimise damage, after all once the door closes I don't imagine the driver opening it every 5 minutes to ensure that your tank isn't cracked.

However if you prefer/can only place the tank in the moving truck, best bet is to turn it into a burrito (the tank is the "filling and soft things are the "wrap"). I'd also look into seeing if the truck to arrive earlier/same time with you. That way you can quickly move the crabs to their new home.

As for the journey with the crabs themselves, best bet it to keep them with you.

I recently moved, I kept the tank in the backseat with me. Fortunately no one was molting, so I removed the water dishes and large decor, wrapped the tank in a blanket and put it on my backseat. I brought the crabs in a kritter keeper on my front seat, kept the car very warm, they drove me nuts the whole way. Plopped them back into the tank with food and water when I got there, the next day did a full tank cleaning/re-setup. They were fine.

Thank you all for your suggestions, a family member is going to be driving the moving truck and the rest of us are going to be following close behind him. If I can I'll try to keep the whole tank with me, but seeing as there's 5 of us I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that. I will get a hold of the smaller tank that I have so I can keep the surface crabs on hand.
