Do you guys keep your moss pits damp or does it not matter if it's dry? I've been having really high humidity in the 90s and I wanted to tone it down a bit without having any openings anywhere other than for fresh air so I can maintain my 75-80 temp

Re: How do you like your salad?
Mine is usually damp when I first put it in, then it dries out. I don't bother getting it wet again. My crabs don't mind either way. However, high humidity isn't bad for hermit crabs. It will just encourage mold growth

Crabbing since July 2013!

I spray my moss pit every other day when I change out food. I fluff the moss and make sure all of it is pretty damp. I always see the crabs in there right after a spray, so I think mine prefer it wet! But it doesn't last long until it dries up again. At least your humidity is high vs. too low! The humidity in my 125g tank was 99% when I left this morning. But as the day goes on, it gradually goes down to about 86%. Remember, it wont hurt your crabs having high humidity. It just means that food molds much quicker (the kiwi, banana and coconut I put in last night already have fur)

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it! I guess I'm just worried about the mold even though I've been told that hermies often enjoy a bit of mold. I'm also worried about flooding in my substrate. My little pals are gonna live! lolmarandashermies wrote:DarthKrab wrote:Do you guys keep your moss pits damp or does it not matter if it's dry? Re: How do you like your salad?
I spray it when it feels dry. If I let it get too dry, my tank swings too much on humidity in the winter.
