Hi,

I currently have a 10 gallon tank with a 6x17 ultratherm attached to it. I recently acquired a 30 gallon long tank and was wondering if I could get another 6x17 and put them both on the back of the 30 gallon to heat it. Would this be sufficient, or should I just go ahead and buy a larger one for the 30 gallon, like a 6x35? :?

I think it depends a lot on your local climate, the temp in your house etc. I have one that goes all the way across the back of my 55g and it keeps it right around 85 or so in there right now. We run quite a bit of AC though, I think we may have to get another heat source for winter though?

I'd day getting another one would help. May I ask, what the size of the back glass?

The common/recommended sizing for a UTH that fits across the entire back above the substrate line. This - along with using insulating materials - help keep most peoples tanks around 80F and above.

Well, as far as climate, I live in NC where it is hot and humid right now and the AC is going for this very reason. And the back of my new 30 gallon is about 36 inches long. So I figure with my current ultratherm being a 6x17, I could purchase another 6x17 and that would give 34 inches of coverage across the back when used together on the 30 gallon. But I did not know if two used together like this would be sufficient in heating the 30 gallon. Do you guys think this would be sufficient heating for the 30 gallon?
