going to petco tomorrow to upgrade tank size

I'm looking at getting a 29 gallon before this 1 dollar a gallon sale is over.
Does anyone know what kind of lids petco carries? Right now in my current tank
im using a mesh lid with surran wrap (and it works great to keep humidity in) but
with this upgrade i would really like to get some kind of more 'air tight' lid.
Any recommendations would be great. I know i could go the whole get plexiglass
cut out route over a mesh lid, but i would rather get some kind of glass lid straight away.
I don't normally go to petco so i dont know their items too well. Any ideas??? its gonna cost me
20 dollars to get to the petco by taxi so i want to figure out what I need and call before i go
and make sure they have what i need before wasting my money going and finding out they
dont have 29 gallon tanks anymore or better lids than just mesh lids. thanks for any help!

I recommend an Aqueon Versa-Top. I bought one for my 29g two days ago. It has helped the humidity stay up :-)

do they sell the versa tops at petco? and how much are they?
i looked at them for my 20 gallon on amazon, but was afraid it would arrive
broken or cracked. Please let me know if they sell these there. Also would I need
to clip this kind of lid down too or does it weigh enough the guys can't escape??

i tried looking on the petco site but i honestly can't find any lids besides hoods with lights and mesh lids :/
what would i need to look up or ask for to see if they have the correct lid?

I called my petco first to ask if they had the 30 in Aqueon Versa Top for a 29g tank.

Dr.s foster and Smith carries a large variety of versatops and other pet supplies online at a great price, that's where many get theirs here. They also have a size chart to help you get the correct size. :)

thanks we bought the tank but they did not carry the right size versa top.
SO for the time beign i bought a mesh lid to fit and wrapped in in surran wrap
which for me totally worked keeping the humidity between 80-85. Next week
im going to order the versa top online next week, along with a digital gauge
right now i have 3 gauges one temp and humidity each on a popsicle stick
in the front of the tan at the sub k and one 2 in one gauge on the back middle
just to get a basic idea of the tank's humdity in different spots.

My question is there is times when the humidity hits 90 on very humid days
this summer so with the plastic wrap i simply move it over a little and it drops
to level out. With a glass lid what if it gets too high? how would you adjust the
levels. Right now with a huge moss pit/2 giant pools I have only had issues
with it going up to 90 but no issues with it getting low. I'm actually worried
the glass may make it go up TOO HIGH! before i get the lid just wanna
see some answers on that. thanks!

i suppose i can use the screen lid with plastic wrap in the summer to adjust humidity and
in the winter use the glass top when the air is dry, and swap them out depending on reason
and conditions? good idea or no?

It depends on how much money you want to spend. There really can't be too much humidity for the crabs, it's just the higher the humidity, the more likely like growth is to occur. It's preference really. :)

True well the tops are not expensive and i'm willing to spend the money even if they weren't cheap so thats no issue.
But, just tryign to decicde whats best for them. My issues at this current time are sometimes my humidity goes to 90 %
and i have to make some adjustments but most of the time its around 85 % this summer (never been lower than 80 yet).
The winter is gonna be dry, ill have the ultra therm running, so i think a versa top is a good idea. I have my current lid clipped
on for escape reasons, how tight to the versa tops fit and would i need to clip it down or weigh it down? i have one crap that
i would be worried he could get out, this one is always climbing thr top of the lid (in fact hes been hanging off it for 2 days chilling).
Also as far as air flow i know theres a strip you can remove for air how does that work? do you cut it out or does it peel? sorry for
all the questions just want to know before i order one today.

This is what mine looks like ( excuse the mess, it's super Sandy right now) it has a hard plastic strip you attatch to the back, carefully! ( I know a crabber has accidently broke a lid trying to apply one) it can be cut, I just used plyers and broke off the piece I needed, but I think an exacto knife might work better. Hindsight is 20-20 though. Lol

It just slides on, it's just not an easy task, my fiance did it for me though, lol, he has bigger and stronger hands. But, I just weakened and snapped it off, like I said above, I think an exacto knife might work better. My hole is literally just big enough for my tubing to go through.
