HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Anyone have a hex tank and LIKE it? If so, what is your set up? Where did you put your heat? Any other issues vs. traditionally shaped tanks? I've got a 49 gal Hex waiting in the wings. If you've had a Hex FAIL, tell me about it, plz.

I don't have a hex tank but I have bent an UTH around a corner without issue. It's been that way for years.

This is my old 35G hex tank. I didn't have a UTH on it, but I should have. I used a combination of lamps with regular day bulbs (not heat bulbs) and a moon glow bulb at night. The glass lid busted in transport, so I had a friend make a lid that I could sit my lamps on. I had to upgrade because there wasn't enough room for my 4 Medium-Large PP's. I used a few second levels to add more room because there just wasn't enough room to "crab."

What I liked ALOT about it was there was plenty of room to go up after the 8" of sub. I'm running into a problem of having enough room to climb in my 75G.

This is now my hex tank as I'm waiting for molt era to rise.

I feel that, about rectangular tanks and space for upper stories... it's brutal how low most of them are. I'm likely to spend a lot more to get a tank that's only 8 inches higher than the cheaper alternative. Standard aqua industry just doesn't get the Crabbie Life. :roll:

Very true! Neither of my two tanks (standard 55 and 40B) have an ideal floor plan after the sub is put in. I do like the 40B and lot more. I'd like to eventually upgrade the 55 to a 75 and get that extra front-to-back floor space and still have it fit on my stand.

I think the 65B is a really nice foot print too; similar to the 40B but bigger (of course!)
