Can't wait for Ultratherm

Post by AshAnne1994 » Thu Sep 29, 2016 2:44 am

Ok so I have been having so much trouble with the temperature and not humidity (odd, I know lol) But I am using a humidifier, I only turn it on at night as the A/C dries out the tank and with the humidifier on it keeps the tank at 80% humidity but for some reason the temperature keeps dropping below 75 degrees! I use a 100W moonglow bulb at night and it is just terrible. You would think a 100w bulb would work better. During the day when I have my red dayglow bulb in there (only 25w!) the temperature stays at 80 so I am not sure why this is. Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks And I ordered my ultratherm and it can't get here any faster lol How warm do the ultratherm get?

You can try to insulate the back and sides with foil and cardboard, or any other insulating materials. It should help keep the heat in until the uth arrives. Seedling mats have been known to help temporarily, as well as electric heat mats or blankets, just be sure to only use those while you are awake and can supervise. Just do your best, and hopefully it will come soon! :)

It's crazy how instantly inactive they become when the temp drops below 80. I don't want to turn the other heat lamp on as it's only 4 am and it super dark and I don't want to disturb them with light I guess I will just jimmy rig the tank with plastice wrap and maybe stick some towels in the dryer to get them warm and wrap around the tank?

Great idea. I forgot that people have used that method! Anything to supplement it! :)

Yeah I think my husband is scared to go past the store anymore :D for fear I might want to get some more crabby stuff hahaha :D When I first started out I did a bunch of research before I found this helpful site and all the information was so contradicting and I just did guess work and tried my best and spent about $200 and got all the wrong stuff for them :/ Now that I found this site I will have everything I need once the ultratherm arrives and have actually spent less on the right stuff than my initial start up cost. Pet stores really are there to take all of your money and leave you with nothing you can actually use :/ I will post a picture of my new tank set up when it gets brighter outside. I made an obstacle course for them :)

If it hasn't been long, you may be able to return some of the items if they haven't been noticeably used. Just an idea. I know wasting money stinks. :/
