Sea Sponge

Post by Guest » Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:09 pm

OK, so this weekend I went to my friend's condo on Indian Rocks beach and while I was there I found a lot of natural sea sponge pieces while walking along the shore line. I brought them home thinking I could use 'em in my crab tanks. What should I do to sterilize it? I want to make sure there aren't any little nasties in it! I just wasn't sure if boiling it in water would make it fall apart. [smilie=dunno.gif]

Boiling should be fine. Some will probably recommend the microwave... I read that somewhere and tried it and let's just say.... who's up for fried seasponge???

Natural is good. Congrats on your find!!! :D

Make sure you check it for the little tiny shells. I don't know if they'll have it, but when i was in Maryland and got 4 hermit crabs there, the sponges had these tiny shells. I lost the shells, though :(.
