Has anyone else noticed those crab kiosks they have at the malls? Have you also noticed that the people there know absolutely nothing about crabs and the crabs are kept out in the open, with no humidity or lights for heat and many have lost limbs??? SO HAVE I, and i do not like it
well, I went to MALL OF AMERICA today, and they have a crab kiosk there. I went there because I have noticed that they always have ruggies and ecuadorians, and darnit, i wanted some!
Also, they called ruggies, indonesian crabs. are they from indonesia?
This particular kiosk had their crabs semi enclosed with heat lamps on them, since the air conditioning in the mall makes it a bit cold, and it seemed somewhat humid!! The guy that worked there knew so much about crabs, I couldn't believe it! He was practically drilling me on how to take care of crabs, asking me about substrate, humidity, temp, cage size, lighting, etc. I was shocked and told him that most kiosks and pet stores know crap on hermit crabs, he said he knew and he agreed, but that the company he works for (HAWAII CRABS) has done a lot to improve its knowledge on crabs and how to care for them and even knowing the different breeds!!
I got 6 crabs that he called ecuadorian, are those E's?? I hope so, but I will make sure they are not ruggies another time, when they are done destressing. I also got one ruggie, and 2 small/tiny pps. I really hope these are E's!!!!
I was just so amazed that this guy (he was my age, early 20s) knew so much about hermit crabs! It makes me think that all of our complaining to these big department heads is starting to pay off!!
Also, at the petco near me, they take crap care of their crabs, but there is one girl there that seems to know a bit about them, but they usually have her work the register. But, lately she has been working with the reptiles, and the crab cage is in much better condition! Humidity up to about 70% and salt and fresh water now!
This day has been pretty good so far!!
