Today we took a trip to a wal-mart that is really far away, and i wen t in the back to the fish, food, creatures, etc. So i was looking and i saw this cart that was shuved back into a corner with plastic cups (usually the ones tht have those african water frogs in them). there were crabbies every where! i couldnt beleive it! how mean!! half of them were dead and it smelled really bad, one was just laying there half out of it's shell with a gnat on it, and others were just all in their too small or too big shells, hiding from the horrible conditions. An employee came over and it was all i could do not to demand the manager!
I ended up being 45 bucks broke, but 9 crabbies richer. (i had the room too, crabbie shortage). now they are happily digging in the sand, climbing, eating and drinking very fresh water. I am open to suggestioins about names too. really i need 12 names though, three other nameless crabbies.
will post pics of the new family soon.

I showed my family the pictures and they were disgusted... My dad's the most informed on hermit crabs.
My mom and sister are kind of clueless to the whole thing.
But anyway... I'm glad you rescued them. I'm trying to convince my dad to let me go down to the walmart I have yet to check for crab in a cup...

That's so sad. Poor crabbies. Hope they survive for you. I'm SO glad my Wal-mart doesn't carry crabs, I feel bad enough for the fish...

they are both E's and PP's, and faiirly small. one of them's shells had a huge hole in the part where his abdoman ends and he still won't move into a nce shell, three of them are moved so far, and they seem healthy. three of them were painted, i got the paint off of them (it peeled right off....go figure
) and one has a beautiful pearl colored shell.

Thank God, when I worked at WalMart, we didn't have "crabs in a cup"! That is just terrible, and some of them look so small too. They are much better off in your care, thanks for rescuing them.

One of the many reasons I don't shop at Walmart. Disgusting! I'm glad you saved them all. But Walmart is probably just going to replace them with others.
I will keep my claws crossed that all of your little guys pull through. They are so cute!

Congratulations. I'm glad you bought them. They're going to be less stressed out now. I hope they make it for ya. Make sure you have enough sand for them to dig down to de-stress! They'll need it!

I got my first crab from wal-mart and had no clue how to take care of him. Needless to say he passed away a few months later because I had him in horrible conditions! If I only knew!!
Our local wal-marts have stopped carrying them after many complaints!! I am thrilled about that!! Soooo Sad!!!
I am so happy for you and the little crabbies!! Good luck!!!
