I just got two new PP's

Post by Guest » Sun Jun 04, 2006 2:21 pm

Hey guys, just got two new PP's, named Poseidon and Neptune. I've always had E's before. So i was just wondering if there were any specific care instructions for PP's that differ from E's. Thanks

(i'll post pics when they get settled in)

I like the names Poseidon and neptune: do they look a lot alike? I only as because they are two names for the same greek/roman classical god (classical studies minor here :o . I like naming animals after classical gods/goddesses...I have a kitty name Juno and another named Clio (greek muse).

I have both PP's and E's...my PP's are a lot less active, but they also grow a lot bigger (I've got a jumbo). I personally prefer PP's, for some odd reason. I'm going to look for a link to PP care for you, i will edit this post if/when I find it.

they're pretty much the same size, and have similar-ish shells, i havent quite seen them, but when i put them in the tank they seem like they look a like. i'm also a classical studies minor (i took the latin to do a major, but didn't get the greek so i can only minor). I asked my mom what two names that went together would be, i do themes when i get new crabs, i've had tv names (sebastian and norbert), and i've had Kish who was named after a historical king, and then i had Motley and Cortez who were named after Pirates, so i figured Poseidon and Neptune would be good.

thanks for the PP info too :D

ok, i just had THE coolest experience ever.

I got these two guys today, first time owning PP's. When i checked on them a little while ago, i noticed that one of them had changed shells to one that i had in the tank. sadly he is not named yet, as i have no had a chance to distinguish between the two, i have the names but havent allocated them yet.

well anyways, i was lying in bed, and got the urge to do some spying on my new nocturnal friends. Well they're a bit shy seeing as they just came from the petstore, but are surprisingly active seeing that i just brought them home. Well my tank is at my eye level, sitting on top of my tv stand, so after they initially hid, they came back out and what not. Well i watched the one who had changed shells go back into the shell he came in from the store, i think the one i had might have been too heavy for him. It was the coolest thing ever. and i must say, these are THE biggest crabs i've ever owned. I got to see the soft part of his body, which i'd say at the thickest is just bigger than a pencil, and he's massive, my other crabs were all A LOT smaller, and you never fully notice until they come out of their shells...

well anyways i'm rambling, i just thought it was so cool to see them change shells as i've never had one do that before

Well congratulations on getting two new critters. ^_^ In my opinion, PPs seem to be the easiest to take care of...since they live more inland than the other crab species.

And I also love the names you gave them. :) I love Greek mythology. It's always been an interesting topic for me. Loved it ever since I was little. Still do.

I got the chance to witness my small PP change shells about a week ago. it was amazing.

I love PPs, I think they might be my favorite species. Plus, they can get so much bigger than E's or Rugs. I have a jumbo PP....have you tried the sizing chart to estimate how big your guys are?
