What is he doing?

Bug, the rescue from the neglectful owner, has perked up some the past few days. I put paper around the tank with peep holes so we can peek at them. Seems they both liked that idea and dont wait for total darkness to come out of the coco house. I also bought some moss and put it in a shallow dish and buried the dish so its like a lake of moist moss. they LOVE it! Anyhow, Bug keeps hanging around one of the larger spare shells I put in there. I swore he was almost out of his snail shell and ready to hop in this one but I freakin SNEEZED and he pulled into his shell again.

He is hanging around it again tonight too. Is this what they do if they are thinking of changing shells? Despite the horrid conditons where he came from, he has grown some because he was in a tiny painted pink shell and he is now in a natural snail snell. He has plenty of room in it though....

I hope he changes clothes fast and isnt naked. I would die if that happened. I wouldnt know what to do. Guess I need to read up on this stuff.

Probably. Mine have been cahnging shells too. They like to drag them around wherever they go. And usually right before changing, they rock it back and fourth, and finally, hop in.

Mine will pull a shell with them around the tank or just really inspect it by flipping it around and sticking their heads inside it. Hehehe... I love it when they stick their faces inside another shell to see what it's like inside.

Yeah, mine do that stuff too. Violet will inspect the same shell for hours just to make sure it's the one she wants. She goes over to the shell pile and moves the one she wants to the middle of the tank, flips it around a few times and then plants herself in front of it for some serious contemplation. Some times it can take hours before she actually moves into it. Once she's in it, every couple of minutes she'll reach around to the back of the shell and pull it on more securely, it reminds me of a kid walking around in pants that are a little too big, ya know how they grab the pants from behind to pull 'em up- It's pretty funny.

Sometimes my crabs will change shells over and over again just for fun. My crab Cy, loves to do this. It's his favorite hobby. I rotate about 30 shells just for him, 5 at a time, in the tank so he's always got a fresh wardrobe to choose from. But he absolutely loves his Striped Fox Conch and will be back in it in the morning almost all the time. Here's a picture of him wearing it:

That's a beautiful shell! And a very, handsome crabbie. I bought one of those the other day for my babies, but no takers yet. My Berry(PP)keeps trying on new clothes, but always goes back to his Magpie. He's tried a couple of Turbos, but I guess they don't fit as well. Bud (E) used to be the fashion model, but I guess he loves his latest shell, have no clue what it is, too much to let go of it. They are too cute when they twist & turn in the new shell. I love the little kid analogy.
