Rescued crab with cracked shell...now what?

Not so sure if this is an emergency or not but this is bugging me. I went to Petsmart again because I felt so bad knowing how lousy those crabs are treated and I found a nice little guy that was plenty active. He was missing one leg and had a huge hole in his shell. Not a crack, but a hole so big I can see his back etc....
Also, I put him in the ISO tank with Whiskey. They were in the same tank at the pet store just yesterday so I assume its ok today.

What about this shell being cracked? I got snotty at the pet store and said that since its obvious he doesnt have any decent shells to change in to...I would take him and help him best I can.

do you have any shells the same size or a little bigger then the one he's in? if so put them in with him, if not get some ordered so he will have options soon

About the condidions in petsmart email them on the corprate level. Just go to their website and tell exactly whats wrong. They usally change it within the next month.

Yea try offer bunch of shells for him. Since it's crack im sure he's uncomfortable.... hope he will change shell soon.

Oh I have oodles of shells his size and a tad bigger and a tad bigger than that etc...I ordered at least a dozen or more from the Crabbage patch. I have some shells that I read are a hermit crabs dream complete with mother of pearl lining.

RIght now he is sitting on them.....but he sat all over them earlier when I first brought him home.

About Petsmart....I talked to the employee the other day when I bought the dead crab (not knowing the little dude was dead) and I was fuming that they were using pepples for substrate. Big lucky stones. No gauges for temp or moisture, a filthy dirty sponge in dirty water and dirty food. He said he knows how to properly care for them and he has tried to get them to provide proper care but corporate doesnt care in the least.
I am still going to go after them though, dont worry. It was disgusting!!

WOOT ! He changed!! I was SOOOOO excited!! I had a feeling he would be switching shells when I saw him crawling all over the other shells nosing around. WHen I checked on him again I saw the old shell all the way on the other side of the tank and saw him nice and cozy in his new shell!!

They told me at the store he refused to change shells. They are so full of it!! They didnt have anything for him but a few jumbo shells!! Poor thing!

Did you try emailing them though? Thats really the only way change suceeds with petsmart.
