I got to see my crab eat for first time!!

Post by Happy Crabber » Sat Apr 28, 2012 1:26 am

Ok, I'm shocked that we've had the crabs for 6 weeks and I'm just seeing one of them (other still under) roam around for the first time!! Woohooo! I think she was drinking out of the moss area, then went straight for the protein staple and mineral blend. Also the crushed oysters. If I'd been underground for 4 weeks, I think I'd head for the fresh fruits and veggies, but ok crab. Do what you gotta do.
Soooo happy!! I finally feel like I have a pet!! Can't wait for the other one to come up as well.

I'm confused. Is this the first time you've seen this crab in particular, or the first crab you've seen at all!?
Either way, that's great! :D Most of mine never dug for too long right after I got them. o.O

When you first get them they are often stressed and will hide a lot. The best way to see them is to sit quietly by the tank late in the evening.

It was the first time seeing one eat. The first two weeks I had them, they just burrowed in the KK. Then when I moved them to the proper tank with sand, they both headed straight down. One came up Wednesday after 4 weeks. She had a good molt, and seems to not be scared of me.

I told my daughter (5) that I got to see Siney eating last night, and she was so mad I didn't wake her up to see too!

Anyway- its cool to have a little in the tank after all this time.

Yes- we have that and have been dying to try it out! I'm going to give this one a few more days without handling. She just came up on Wednesday, so I'll probably have to give her a bath when the other comes up. Maybe then we'll try.

What exactly is the hand feeding kit. I've seen it on HCP but I haven't bought anything from there yet. o.O
Is it just a spoon that you put food in that they eat off of?
How do you use it with your crabs, crabapplesouthclaw?

I just held my crab in one hand slightly off the table then spoon feed him some of the fruit treat. Ate right out of the spoon.

It is powdered foods you mix with water and a tiny spoon and mixing dish. It is fun for kids (and adults if you have not seen them eat).

I've used it with just the normal food, I didn't buy the powder food for it, but I will next time I order there.
