MOLTING QUESTION

Post by fancyhedronbabydoll » Sat Jun 16, 2012 1:34 am

Okay, this is what has been going on. MY two crabs burried themselves on may 31st. A week or so ago I saw that they had come up and changed shells.I have soil from THCP and some crushed cuttle bone as well as fresh water and salt water and food that is replaced daily. When I checked on them tonight I could see one digging and he was on the side so I could see him through the glass. This means that he moved because he wasnt there before. So does this mean that they are indeed molting? I have not seen them on the surface since the 31st. Mainly, I am excited if they are but worried if they arent because I miss them and they were very active, I will also add that right before this I did get them a bigger tank, Id say on the 27th or so was when Iput them in it.

de-stressing from the move probably. However if they were holding off on molting in case of better conditions, and then you provided it to them, they maybe also getting ready to molt. The one that's been coming up and changing shells might have already molted. Depends how big they are.

They have both changed shells. Just recently. one is a small and one a medium. The one I can see has been changing places underground. Im going to check when I get home from work and see if he is still by the glass where I can see him.

They will often dig around under the substrate for a while before settling on a place to molt. I suppose they are looking for what they consider a good and safe place to molt.

I agree. My new E did underground laps around the edge of the tank for a few days before deciding on a spot somewhere in the middle.

He did indeed move so I cannot see him through the glass anymore. Hopefully they are molting. Thanks for the replies.
