101 Gallon Exo Terra Crabitat Build
Re: 101 Gallon Exo Terra Crabitat Build w/ video
I love your cork round moss pit and how you've done the vertical one as well! I wouldn't mind having a better look at the rock formation too. The whole thing really looks awesome. You're making me want to start all over from scratch and steal your ideas!

It would be hard to get a good shot of what I did with the rock formation ornament because they have plants attached and they're attached to the open end of the horizontal log to hold it up. I'm including a Petsmart link to the decor piece I used because I think that would explain it better. I kind of fit two of them together vertically like puzzle pieces and then drilled them and strung some zip ties. It worked well and I like that they're a gray color since there's so much brown in the tank from the cork.

There are usually a lot more crabs in the moss pit at any given time but I had been running the fogger into the moss pit just before I took the video and a lot of them don't like it so they scattered and hid. The moss pit is the crabs' favorite place to be in the new crabitat and there's generally anywhere from 5-12 crabs in there all the time.

If I could ask you, where did you get the cork logs? I know you said you got them from Germany, but did you order them online? I want to know where I can find some full cork logs. I can only find the cork bark rounds cut in half online. Is there any place you know of that I can buy some from? I really like what you did with those logs, and if I can get some on my hands, I may just use your idea for the moss pit.sugarselections wrote:I built the main centerpiece out of two gigantic cork logs I got from Germany. They arrived much bigger than anticipated and required a large redesign of my initial plans for the crabitat. The two logs are connected and the horizontal log contains a huge moss pit.

I got the cork on ebay from the seller kork-deko_de
Specifically, I purchased two of these logs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/XXL-Cork-Bark-T ... 19f6339442

Thank you for the link! But $70 for a cork log... Sadly I can't afford that right now. I will probably buy the smaller, $30 log in the future, after Christmas. I have spent my money on gifts, so the log will have to wait. But this is definitely on my to do list!sugarselections wrote:I got the cork on ebay from the seller kork-deko_de

The barrier glass I installed at the front of my terrarium has been working well for over two years now. Good luck with your build!Emm33333 wrote:Hey! I've been thinking about getting one of those. I love your tank. A question though, how tall is the horizontal door?
