I'm brainstorming towards a custom set up. I have read through all of the recommended tank size info, and I presume that really boils down to square inches of substrate per crab. If course, that gets a bit muddled when you talk tall tanks vs long ones. So I guess I am looking for some opinions on adding non-digable areas to the enclosure and how they count for space.

Re: Long term planning.....
Volume is just as important as surface area. On beaches they can run for as long as they want, dig as deep as they want, and climb to the highest tree that they want.
A tank that is really tall but narrow isn't great for crabs unless you can add a significant amount of depth to it.
I am setting up my basement for a custom build and my Es need a ton of climbing and digging room. It may be 250-300 gallons with twice as much surface area that they have now not counting vertical climbing space. Did you find any useful tutorials or resources?
