Bow front tank and lid?

Hey y'all! I'm sorry that I've been so inactive. Work has kept me busy, along with unpacking and getting the new house set up. I'm still loving my crabbies though! All 5 are healthy and more active than ever! Pics coming soon

I have the opportunity to get an 80 gallon bow front tank for $100. It comes with a small stand, only 2 feet tall. But I'll use it until we build something taller. The tank doesn't have any cracks, but it comes without a lid. Has anyone ever made a lid for a bowfront? I was thinking a hinged lid, since a slide might be a little more difficult. Any advice is helpful!

I'm not sure if I'm going to get the tank yet, I'm hoping to. But with the new house comes new bills (like everything breaking at one time the first week we were in ) so we are trying to be careful with spending until we are a little more sure of everything!

I’ve been wondering how you’ve been doing, I hope everything is going well for you. Moving is hard enough, then moving at this time of the year with the holidays. I think that’s a great deal for that tank, especially 80 gallon. I love the look of the bow front, they’re so elegant looking. If you have the opportunity to get it, you should, so you don’t regret it later on if you can’t find another one. I saw a tutorial on building a lid, I’ll have to try to find it again, it was a sliding lid though. I’m glad that your crabbies are doing well, that’s good to read. <3

A sliding lid would be great too! I didn't think it was possible with a bow front though. Im down!
Yes, it was crazy. He was promoted and switched schedules, i started a new position and switched shifts, both of us had strep, and we moved all in TWO DAYS! That week was horrible but ALL crabs survived the move, one baby PP even survived a surface molt in his ISO tote! It was awesome. They're way more active now, even with temps being in the low 70s (I need to insulate!!!)
I really REALLY hope I can steal this tank! It would be a DREAM!

Off the top of my head and without any pics I’d suggest maybe cutting a piece of plywood that would fit in the inner rim of the tank lid. Make a copy first out of card board then once it’s cut to the right size cut your plywood once you have that done cut access panels into the top of your plywood then get some plexi glass and cut a section to put over top of the access pannel. Either install a swivel hinge or add tracks to either side to hold the plexi glass in place. Then it’s a matter of sealing it. If you use an over head light for heating a tank cut an appropriate sized hole for the heat to penetrate then use glass over top of that space. I’d suggest glass because thermal energy will transfer through it x10 faster than plexi, same can be done for over head viewing lights the barrier between these and the tank could be glass or plexi they both have pros and cons these basically boil down to strength, capacity to transfer energy and well plexi might yellow but glass could break. Or you could incorporate magnets to hold you access pannel closed but then the door wouldn’t slide open closed like you wanted.

I can’t find the original video that I had watched when I was thinking about making a lid bc I didn’t know you could buy them. Maybe between these two videos you can make something? You should be able to have the plexiglass cut curved to fit your bow front and then slide it back to a rectangular piece on the back, with the trim pieces that they used for the sliding track. It sounds easy but it may be a lot harder without being able to actually see what I’m working with.

You may even be able to find a better DIY, I was trying to find the video I had watched before, and then just did a quick internet search for “diy bow front lid”.
