So I have a tank thats 36x19 and want to make a lid out of plexiglass. The sheets I can order come in 36x24 so I will only have to trim a small amount so it fits in the recess at the top. So I have this cat lol, he loves to sit on top of the crabitat, and I was wondering how thick of a sheet I would need to order. We'll say the cat is around 15-20 pounds. The 3/16 thick sheet is only $38, where as the 1/4 inch is $66.

Re: Plexiglass questions
He could potentially bend either, plexi doesn't have a lot of strength to it when placed flat and the warmth from the tank will also warp it. Could you get a screen lid to support the cat and then use plexi overtop to hold in humidity and keep out kitty accidents? You've got a standard 40 gallon breeder tank, or at least that size lid will fit it.

Re: Plexiglass questions
I tried plexiglass, even duct taped to the top of a mesh screen it warped, pulled the duct tape off it warped so bad. Plus my crabs like the mesh top, gives them another level to climb on. They cruise around upside down on it.

Re: Plexiglass questions
So currently it's the two glass pieces that comes with most tanks. Those hold his weight some how. I just want to eliminate the 1 3/8 gap between the glass and the edge of the tank for humiditys sake. Though I may just leave the little strip of plastic wrap and get the wire mesh topper for extra cat protection like wodesorrel suggests. Thanks guys
