Early Bday present
I finally got it...a tank topper! I’ve been wanting to do it since I discovered it as an option. My bday is still a couple weeks away, but I was antsy and my sweet bf went ahead and got it for me!
I have a 40g breeder 36x18 LxW. I got a 30g exo terra 18x18x24 LxWxH! It worked perfectly...flipped it upside down and used the mesh lid (covered in Saran Wrap) to cover the remaining open half of bottom tank. Filled in small gap where it droops with foam and duct tape and it seems pretty sealed up now. Added a large uth to the side and a couple water bowls in the top to help with humidity. I still want to add a shower caddy moss pit.
I had so much fun with this design and making things for them to climb on! My bf drilled holes in the clear rises I was originally using on the bottom and now I’ve got them suspended as levels. I also added thin bamboo sticks and was shocked to see how easily they climbed straight up them on the first night.
Here’s a few pictures. Didn’t get many as this was all set up just 1 night before the fire (if you’ve seen my other post)...
The burlap hammocks are to soften a fall, haha.

That is awesome! Did the crabs figure out they can go up yet?
I really need to stop procrastinating and get off my butt and look for a topper!
Happy early birthday! Mines in a few weeks too!

That's gorgeous! I love it. I've got the same size tank, I may have to copy you if I can find one of those used

Re: Early Bday present
Thank you everyone! I just love decorating tanks...it was a lot of fun!
@motörcrab @crabs_lex
Yes, a couple of them have discovered it and climbed up the first night! I was so excited! I wondered how long it would take them and was happy to see it wasn’t long. If the others would take a break from the wheel long enough they might discover it too, lol.
Thanks for the Bday wishes as well!
@motörcrab, my actual bday is April 2nd...happy early bday to you too!

That is fabulous! How did you make that bamboo ladder? I just got a bunch of 2' and 1/3" bamboo stakes that I'm itching to use to make something. I was thinking of a tee-pee type hiding structure, but I love the ladder.
I'm going to have to starting shopping for my topper now too. My tank is a 75g, so the topper is going to be more $$$.
