Fluker's Combination Fixture

Post by Guest » Sat Jan 07, 2006 2:08 pm

I got a 30" Fluker's Combination Fixture for my 29g crabitat last week. I absolutely love it! It holds two incandecent bulbs (one on each side) and an 18" flourescent bulb in the middle. I've got a 25w sun glow on one end, and a 25w night glow on the other, and it's doing a fine job keeping the tank at 75 degrees. The crab room is pretty warm, but the fixture can take up to a 100w bulb in each end.

I also looked at the ESU combo light, but I really like this one for two reasons. First of all, because it's only about 5 inches wide it fits nicely over my versatop (glass aquarium lid) which allows me to open the lid without having to move the light fixture. The ESU fixture is nearly twice as wide.

Secondly, I got it from petguys.com for less than $45 delivered. That's much cheaper than the ESU fixture...even if I had bought it locally.

Smiles,
Do you mean air exchange for the tank or air exchange to disburse the heat from the lights?

The glass lid I have is a Versa-top by All-Glass. The lid has a vinyl back piece that can be cut for tubing, air holes, etc. Even without cutting it, it's not an airtight seal by any means, so there's plenty of fresh air for the tank. Because the lid is hinged, you can prop it open if needed, too.

The light fixture itself sits atop the rim of the tank rather than directly on the glass lid. There's a gap between the fixture and light so heat can escape. If it' ever becomes a problem, Fluker's sells a kit to raise the light 4", or you can use wood blocks to raise it however much you need.

When using this light, is there anyway to time the lights seperately or do you manually have to turn them on and off?

For Flukers since its ONE cord with seperate switches you have to do it manually which is a bummer :(

it looks like a nice fixture though. I wish I was home enough to able to use that one. I ended up getting the esu tri light on 2 timers. Then again I only have a 10 g tank
