Quite honestly, if the humidifier you built isn't working, the store bought one probably won't either. The best thing you can do at this point is wet your sand, and move your tank to a non-drafty place. My tank is sitting on the end of my kitchen table against the wall.

The most likly reason mine didn't work is because it was most likly to small for the tank, it was only like 3" tall and about 1 1/2" wide so it couldn't possibly produce enough humdity and be able to push it thru those tiny tubes. I think the real one would work since a couple of people have said it works.

Uhhh.. Find a bigger jar! LOL. I used a mayo jar. If you find a bigger jar, it'll work. No wonder it doesn't do anything for your tank. Besides, finding a bigger jar is cheaper than spending 15 bucks plus shipping on a humidifier.

I don't have any bigger jars, and I wasn't going to get it from that site because I'm not allowed to order stuff online anyway. But if I come across a bigger jar I'll give it a try, could I use soap to wash out a mayo jar if I find one?

Durbkat, definately a bigger jar. I also mix my sand,1/4 FB and 3/4 playsand. This has helped with humidity and the crabbies love to tunnel in it. My 50g is also an old fish tank and I use an aquarium hood. I have seen the humidifier on sale for $15. at petco it is $19.95.

We experimented with gallon water jugs and 1 and 2 liter bottles before switching to the twistloc Ziploc containers. You might try that as well.

I have been using a 1/2g bowl with an airstone in it and it keeps the humidty at 80% since I've gotten a glass lid. Thanks for the ideas though.
