Want a second level-Need ideas!

Post by Guest » Sun Feb 04, 2007 12:33 am

I wanted to get a second level to put in my tank. Not really big, just so the hermies will have a little more room, because there is a lot of un-used hight. Also,I want to keep it kinda cheap.I want good product, though,so if I can't find anything cheap,I will buy expensive stuff.I also wanted a second level because I let one of my micros out to play on a little basket-like thing I have for them,And he loved to climb on it!So I wanted somthing for them to climb on,like a ladder or somthing going up to a second level.Any suggestions?

You can get shower caddies at Wal-Mart or Target cheap. You can also get netting cheap and hang it with suction cups so they can get up. :)

That's a good idea.I might go to PetCo. or PetSmart later on to see if there is anything there I can use.

I use the Target shower caddies. In fact, I think I am the original user of them! When I found out how really great they work, I spread the word on this site, so everyone could have easy-to-do second levels. When I first started crabbing, I read the directions & ideas of other members for the second levels. It all sounded too complicated for me. They were also, for the most part, permanent. They were aquarium-glued in.

What I love about them, is they're easy to clean, and non-permanent. I like to switch up my tanks & change everything around in them. The fact that the shower caddies are only attached by suction cups, allow me to move them around as much as I want. :)

Hmm...I might do that. But I went to petco and found some stuff I might be able to use,I just have to get my tank measurements and then I can see if they have anything.Until then,I got some new stuff for the tank.First off,I got some new shells for my micros. They needed some.Second,I got a climbing wall for them. It's made of pure coconut fiber, and I checked it,it fine for them.It ataches to the back wall of the tank, and they climb around on it.They really seem to like it!And third, and my favorite,I got a fourth hermie! :wav: It is a purple pincher,so it can be buddies with my other PP.

Another good idea is to attach suction cups to a halved coconut and hang that instead of a shower cadie. shower cadies are cool, but I think the coconut idea looks more natural

Here's on for ya: Get the plastic canvas sheets used for cross stitch. I have ones that measure 13 1/2" X 10 1/2" These can be cut to size and attached with plastic hook suction cups. Leave a long section on the side to bend down for a ramp. Weave in moss, vines, untreated hemp or other safe material to make a bed and for extra climbing. Pretty inexpensive and modular since to can cut any angle/design and attach with hemp twine the new additions to the existing platform.

I was just washing up some berries for the kids tonight and got looking at the little square plastic slotted container that the strawberries came in. I bet they would make a good second level moss pit. I think I'm going to try it.
