2 ten G tanks crabitat

Post by sage dragon » Fri Aug 19, 2011 9:48 pm

i am still researching, but have decided to do a DIY 20 G tank out of two 10 G's. Both 10's i have , have a broken long side, but other ways they are in good condition. I am going to remove the broken sides, replace them with a sheet of plexi sileconed in. Each plexi sheet will be half the heighth of the tank. They will sit long sides together on a counter. I plan on connecting them with velcro straps. The top of one will be screen with plexi glass on top with a hole cut out for a lamp. the other side will be just plexi. Still working out how to do everything. Took pictures of the broken tanks, will take pics of every step, so i will have a pictorial diary of the build. I wanted more space for 4 crabs than just a ten G and had these tanks sitting in the garage doing nothing. One side will be deep sand/coconut fiber mix with a moss pit. the other will be two water pools, a moss pit and a driftwood log to climb up to sand side. of course i will be adding a house, and climbing vines and shells. any advice on my ideas so far? and any ideas on bridging the 1/4 inch gap between the plexi glass walls? i want it to come apart into two tens again for cleaning ease, so nothing permanent. i was thinking of a strip of plexi attatched to one side only, but it is so small. maybe a bead of silecone. I am not worried about the crabs getting thru, just know how curious they can be.
Thanks for reading this and any advise you can give will be appreciated.

need advise on heating. since it is two tanks sharing some air space, can i use a repti light on one side only? should i put a ut heater on the other side? i didnt want to buy them both, but i wasnt sure if just the light alone would surfice. any ideas? anyone else do a similar tank setup? i'm flying blind right now.
