Anyway, I love this monster, I sorry for all the dead hermies, but wow, I think you managed to beat Wod with the number of PP's you have! :) That takes skills - and a large tank

If you made a livestream cam of this tank, I would be watching everyday! It would be like the hermit soap opera. There could be a character page with each hermit's head shot lolz. I would def. take this tank over a TV any day! This is so cool!

:hlol: I wouldn't say dirty minds, let's just go with... creative? :innocent:
Thank you! I am still upset about my violas :x I just can't believe all of them and all of the straws passed, just when I was about to make the 217gl an all straw tank.
Did I beat Wod? I owe it all to the thirty-some rescues that DragonsFly sent me, and the other adoptees i've brought in. I never would've imagined that the 13 year old kid I was when I first started crabbing would grow up to have a hermit crab rescue with over 50 crabs...over 90 crabs!!! Thanks a lot HCA! You've turned me into a crab hoarder!

It's funny that you mention that, I thought about it after my cousin told me that it'd be cool to record them and watch them later. I might end up doing that once I get the chance! Moving, remodeling, and looking for a new job has been hectic, but i'll get that (and the video tour) going soon, I promise! I know that it'll definitely be like a hermit soap opera, the other day my aunt and mom were here and they stood for about 45 minutes just watching them. It was too funny! My mom never understood why I would rather stare at the tank than watch TV, now she knows! 8)

Ohhh, I totally up for the live cam! :) Be great, I can see everything at night!! (The joys of living on the other side of the world!)
I pretty sure you beat wod, i thought she had 50... But then again, I horrible with maths so don't quote me!
I so happy, I going to grow up into a crab horder! Thank HCA! Really, I love to hoard crabs - except naming them would be impossible!
Hmm, maybe turn the 217 into a Asian tank - ruggies, Straws, Indos, Blues and i think violas - and then the big boy for the PP and E - or the other way around... :) You can still have a theme going...

I am chiming in. First, really awesome tank and my DH is giving that "Hubby" look whenever I mention how awesome your haven is while I look sadly at my measly tank. Second, I really hope you sent up a live feed even if it's only for a few days. I would love to see how they interact in your haven.

*********************************************************************************************************
I swear I think I spotted a few of my little guys!
One looked to be my "trouble maker" in his natural Mexican shell.
He really wasn't that tough, just a bit of an instigator that liked to stir things up every once in awhile. :P

I like the picture of the one next to the gauge.
"Trying to figure out why the temp/humidity reader isn't working"
It appears that he was thinking the same thing. :hlol:

I can't seem to part with the equipment and especially certain shells, yet.
I've secretly thought about starting up again, or at least one tank anyway.
Shhhhh, haven't confessed that to my DH.

I'll give it some time but, Ya never know..... Guess it'll always be an addiction that could easily be slid back into. Oh dear!

Best wishes for you and them.

I am working on getting that live cam set up, I'm trying to figure out how (if) I can set up two different cams, one on the left and one on the right... we'll see how this works out!
Names are one thing I'm terrible at :-/ There are a few I've named and a few adoptess that I do recognize, but aside from that they are all pretty much nameless :innocent: I do love them all though!
As for the 217, I may end up selling it and just combining all of the crabs (but i'm afraid to overcorwd, although there is plenty of room!), or building a whole other huge tank that'll connect to this one (1,020). I'm still thinking about it...
I do plan on adding some more indos for my lone guy, and maybe a few violas too. I don't think I could do Straws again, it hurts so much when they die and I would hate to experience that again :(

They definitely are!!! They're just exploring non-stop!
Thanks, I really miss those straws! :(

Thank you! lol I think the live cam will be a weekly thing. They're usually really active after a mist, or at feeding time, they're even more active when it's time to change the water and leaf pits. I may do it Tuesdays and Thursdays or something, more info on that soon!

I believe the one you're mentioning is yours! He's quite a character and a hog when it comes to feeding! Don't even get me started on when he's on the shell shop :x Even though he hasn't changed shells, he won't let any other crab have 'em! lol it's funny to watch!
The only reason I noticed the gauge wasn't working was because the crab was right there lol I'm glad he noticed it and notified me about it
I totally understand! They're such interesting creatures that it's hard to give them up. That's exatly why I got back into crabbing! It's just hard, they steal your heart.
No matter what rehab treatment or 12 step program you try, this addiction can't be beat! It just takes over your life and changes you! :anon:
Thank you so much! Hope everything is great with you!!!

Just a quick update! I made a few changes to the crabitat today. The substrate was about 5" short of where I wanted it so I added 6 bags of playsand, it has more of a larger stone if that makes any sense, like it's more coarse than the playsand i'm used to. Anyway, the crabs seem to like it, I didn't mix it with anything and I was afraid they'd freak from the new smell or something, luckily that didn't happen :)
Since I had to remove the giant cholla tree, I made a few modifications to a few lose pieces and changed a few around. I also added another moss pit along the top to help catch some of the water from the DIY Rain System I made here.

In this pic that I posted a few days ago (on page 4) you can see a huge pile of dry plants on the netting.
Image
I got those air plants from parrothead I believe, and they were dead and dry (or so I thought)
I let them sit there and get plenty of water and today I noticed they were looking better :D So I went ahead and left them on the netting but set them up on the edge and placed moss over the netting.

The way I had the pools set up wasn't working either (for my benefit) It was dificult to do water changes and the water got filthy quick. I decided to turn the smaller pools into leaf dishes, that will double as a weekly feeding platform.
Image

I also put a screen over the 10gl (which is filled with fresh water and has this fogger/mister in it to help with humidity) and placed the salt and fresh water pools over the screen. Now the pools look cool with a foggy mist coming out from under them.
