Petco Glow in the Dark Calcium Hermit Crab Sand

I sawthis product sealed at a Goodwill today, but when I read the back I was more than a little miffed.

They want you to emulate an arid climate. Arid. Yup, that's the exact kind of environment hermit crabs like. :|
Arid - adjective - (of land or a climate) having little or no rain; too dry or barren to support vegetation.
"hot and arid conditions"
synonyms: dry, dried up, bone-dry, waterless, moistureless, parched, scorched, baked, thirsty, droughty, desert

They also suggest 2 inches of substrate. How does anything burrow down in something so shallow? Not to mention Calci-sand tends to harden when wet, and since the sand would be moist for hermit crabs, hermit crabs who burrow can become trapped and die.

So yeah, avoid this stuff!

For sure! Avoid all "calci" or similar sands. Not only are they unsafe but they're way more expensive. Play sand is the way to go. :)

Petco Glow in the Dark Calcium Hermit Crab Sand

I know I'm mega paranoid on what I let mine near, but something about crab + glow in the dark sounds like a horrible idea to me. Much like the painted glow in the dark shells...that's GOT to be toxic isn't it?

EDIT; I mean the glow in the dark element in particular I KNOW the paint alone is.

I would think it would be just as concerning (if not more so) as painted shells or dyed sand.
