Bird Activity Center
Would this http://www.amazon.com/Penn-Plax-Bird-Ac ... 393&sr=1-9 be safe for crab use? (I'd leave off the banana or berry block). It looks like it could be fun for the crabs to climb but I worry a little about the colored wood.

I've seen many bird toys in crabitats. Just keep an eye out for peeling paint or rotting wood.

Re: Bird Activity Center
I found a natural wood version but of course it's 3x more expensive. I feel like my crabs need or want more climbing toys.

Re: Bird Activity Center
The plain wood might be too slippery for them to get traction to climb.

Re: Bird Activity Center
Mine climb the tubing for the bubblers so I don't think it'll be an issue.

Re: Bird Activity Center
That wood is dyed, not painted. I have a bunch of things like that for my bird. I'm not sure how the dye would hold up to the humidity in a crabitat - all it takes for parrots to get dye on them from dyed wooden toys is to be wet, or get the wood wet, and touch it. The dye isn't considered harmful (unless their food is dyed and they're consuming dyed food on a regular basis) but I'm not sure if its different for crabs?

Oh, also, make sure you look at how big it is. I have almost that exact one for my bird except not dyed and from a different brand, and its too big to fit in my 55gal crabitat.
Edited to add: I forgot to mention, some pieces are glued together and I don't know what kindof glue it is or if it is crab safe/would hold up to humidity.

You can probably build something cooler using popsicle sticks

Actually, you could create a mini playground for them out of a tote and let them play on it outside of the tank. Monitoring the conditions of course.

Re: Bird Activity Center
Good ideas. I got to thinking that I could create something crab safe and just as fun for less.
