It has been hard to get it regulated. It keeps hitting 90 in there and I have to unplug a uth. I have 2 and only 1 won't keep the tank warm enough but 2 make it too hot. I think I have a water problem at the bottom of my tank right now. It is hard to tell in these pics but the bottom of the sand is much darker than the rest. I think it has something to do with having to constantly plug and unplug a uth. I don't have a dimmer and am too broke right now to pick one up. 50lb is way too heavy for me right now. Dr's orders to lift no more than a gallon of milk right now. Cold just makes it worse.

Uth? I have side heaters but I don't know how heat my new tank. I hate cold. I am glad I don't live in Iowa any more. BC Texas winters are hard. Iowa winters where crippling.

Uth = under tank heater. Except you mount these on the side of your tank, above the substrate.

Yes, the under tank heaters that are stuck to the back of my tank. We go to Iowa for Thanksgiving each year. It is always cold.

I buy my moss from desert crabby mixes and more. I haven't found any other that I like.

Thanks. I have a Greek themed tank. Most of my crabs are named after Greek Gods, Goddesses, Heroes and People from those type stories. I do have others though. Like Thor who is Norse, George which is my favorite name, Godzilla, then my Wheel of time theme names being amongst them.

I have a plastic clock tower from a train set I can not find any track for. I thought that would be a fun hut and climbing thing. Once I build my tank up and make my rain forestest.... Image ha!! I nearly got it going and I want more. Lol. My husband is freaking out about 150 lbs of sand in the living room. "what if the tank breaks?" Image Image my thought shop vac. And go to work. I don't have the heart to tell him I need 150 more lbs of sand. Image I'm not ready to have that discussion. Harry is my biggest and he is about an inch and a half. So it should be 6 to 5 inches of sand. I got some pebbles and shells (broken or crushed) to mix in the sand. I have read about coco fiber and such. But I don't understand what that stuff is.. Image

Image Image

PS. Oh yeah harry keeps climbing up the bridge and hanging on the side of the tank. I'm not sure if they need not ventilation? I have a piece of clear plastic for making couch covers. Very thick and flexible. Harry has a half painted shell. This picture is from before we had an intense session of cleansing plaster and spray paint and ewwww from his shell. He is so clever and awake.

His shell was so heavy.

If you go into the pictures and crabitat conditions subforum, you'll see many photos of crabitats of all sizes.
