egg crate and pvc quick questions

So I have all the components of the false bottom here, and have just a few last questions...
1. The pvc I used was small in diameter (1 inch) - it was what we had lying around so I used it. There should be no problem with that, correct? There will be about 40 of them lining the bottom to hold up the egg crate...
2. I got the egg crate from a local hardware store in the lighting section -- it seemed kinda flimsy to me at first! When I was carrying it to the car, it was flexing and bending (of course, it was a large sheet, 24x48) - but are there different strengths of egg crate? I'm guessing it'll still be OK, but I'm just making sure I didn't miss any posts about heavy duty egg crate, or something like that....
3. In a 55 gallon tank with a cross beam across the top, am I going to be able to get the whole crate/weedblock/canvas sandwich in there in one piece? Can it slide right in at an angle and be fit into the bottom, or did anyone else have to break theirs up into pieces...
thanks
