HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Since I am going to be doing this for my new 55 gallon, I thought I would post this:

I did this for my 40g, it works really well and keeps humidity in great. I wish i hadnt gotten sand in the slits and even though part of one of the doors broke i glued needlepoint canvas into it to help with air flow. Definitely make sure they cant lift it or escape through any air holes. But post pics! I want to see how it works and turns out for you! =D

I thought about you when I was deciding on a glass top! I remember your cool handle you made! Will let you know how it turns out!

I have been wanting to do this for a while now. I have purchased the moulding to hold the glass, but where can I get custom cut glass? If anyone has done this DIY top, could you let me know where you got the glass, and how much it costs?

I got my glass from lowes. The cutting is free and they have various sized sheets. I didnt get holes cut in mine because it ended up breaking and i just modified the break for air circulation.

I present to you, my new sliding glass top! It was all pretty simple, I just had to make the time to go to Lowe's to get the glass. I am very impressed on how it turned out! Here are some pics:

Parker_roo, what type of lighting do you use with that top? Do you use a lamp stand? The reason I ask is that I'm upgrading to a 29g for my PPs and am still debating between an aquarium lid with fluorescent strip light (the set up on my smaller tank now), a hinged screen lid with a strip light + a small incandescent moonglow light or a Versa-lid type of hinged glass lid on which I could still use the strip light and probably the moonglow, too.

Honestly the light is just an ordinary house lamp that is placed on my dresser, which happens to be by my tank. I have thought of using LED light strips for my own lighting, but with the new glass top, the lighting has been great. If I were to use LED lights with the glass top, I would paste the strips on the moulding that holds the glass. But besides that, I haven't explored much into aquarium lighting, so I am not of much help.

Thanks for the reply. Still debating but time is on my side as two of my 5 are still underground so there's no rush to move everyone into the new tank I'm picking up on Sunday.
