How to best set up/attach an ultratherm

Post by Knibitz » Thu Dec 11, 2014 12:54 pm

(sorry, I'm a new thread whore today- LOTS OF QUESTIONS)

I was going to order my ultratherm tomorrow but I got a bit overzealous and ordered it today.... I got the 6X36 and have a 20 gallon long.

What's the best placement/set up for this guy? I know back of the tank, and I imagine most of it above the substrate? or half and half?

I'm planning to upgrade tanks in February - what would be the best way to stick it to my tank for easy removal later?
Could I insulate over it with quilt batting rather than Styrofoam?

I tried doing half/half and it burned the sand ._.

You should place it most, if not all the way above the substrate. I use packaging tape to attach mine. After attaching it, I created insulation with aluminum and cardboard taped together, then taped that over it, with the aluminum facing the heating pad. It's functional and will be easy to move to my 40GB when Heisenberg and Tarquin come up.
