Hey. Now that I'm thinking about it...This is probably going to sound stupid, but visually about how big is a 55 gallon? I can't seem to picture it, and I'd like to kinda plan out where it'd be in my house. :)

Old computer desk or dresser but half as thick so it's close to the wall, I'd say. It measures 4 feet by 1 foot, and is almost 2 feet tall (21 inches). It helps to mark the spot with masking tape ahead of time so you can get a sense of where it's going!

Thank you. :) I have an extra computer desk in my house actually, do you think that'd work for a stand? Or maybe something bigger?

Also, good thinking, that's smart. I'll make the hubby get out the tape measure! (He won't admit it, but I catch him watching them just as much as I do!) XD

With the proper amount of substrate it's going to be several hundred pounds. The tank empty is I think 70, and then around four or five bags of sand (200-250 pounds dry) and then making it wet which adds at least another 100 pounds. I know people who use desks and dressers, but I personally would be afraid to. When I had mine it was on 2x4s on the floor, but that's just me!

An empty 55g is 78lbs, a 40 breeder 58lbs.

I think whatever your tank goes on should be either an aquarium stand, or solid wood. My 40B is on a coffee table, but it's solid oak so I don't worry about it.
