HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I want a net for my tank but can't find any in stores or online. I found some gardening jute twine and wondered if jute was safe for crabs or not. I'm doing research to see if it is treated or not. If you guys have any clue about this I would love to know and hopefully make my own nets

Just found out its treated with a oil called jute batching oil? Don't know about it still or if that's safe
It's expose to soften the jute so it can be twisted into twine

Jute, hemp, and sisal are safe. They may mold or fall apart quickly, depending on where they're placed in the crabitat.

It looks fine. I've been doing some heavy research on these natural fibers. Jute is safe. You might smell it to see if you can detect any chemical odor. If it seems earthy, then you're probably fine. It costs money to treat natural fibers, so the cheaper, more raw forms are generally more safe. If you find something called sisal, jute, or hemp that is soft as silk, then yeah, be suspicious. 1ply probably has less risk than 3 ply. You get the idea. Cotton twine is also safe, but prone to mold and deteriorating as mentioned above. Getting this stuff "certified organic" is not really an option from what I'm finding, so you have to be judicious without being paranoid.
