I want to get my hands on some large pieces of plastic egg crate. Where do you all get yours from? I'm having trouble finding what I see pictured in a lot of people's builds.

The egg crate can be found at Lowe's. Its in the area with ceiling tiles. It is also called light diffuser. It's around $16-17 for a 48x24 sheet.

I'm never sure where the egg crate nickname came from, but call it that in a hardware store and you will get the strangest looks!

I wondered the same thing too. When I think of egg crate I think of the cardboard eggs come in. The stuff you would cut in rows and make caterpillars out of as a kid!

Than you for your information! The name egg crate is part of the problem/frustration I'm having. Several searches yield egg carton or the same carrying box like a milk crate. I have a lowes 30 minutes away that we frequent often, however, I can't find the egg crate ceiling tiles there in an online search so I'm just going to have to be sure I have another reason to go, such as the lumber I need to pick up to build a table to hold that 75 gal tank I have decided I need. An hour away is a bigger city with lowes, home depot pet smart and Petco ( where the aquarium is on sale)so hopefully I can find some. I've got to clean my room, organize and build the table before I even get the tank so I have time to shop and get it ordered if they dont have any. Amazon wasn't too helpful and some of the vendors I did find were out of stock, others seem to sell it in bulk and I really only need a few sheets.

Lowes calls theirs louvered ceiling panels

They'll either be with the florescent light strips, or in the back with the ceiling panels and insulation.

The ones at home depot are in the lumber section, with other light panels (different from ceiling tiles area).
There's several variations:
Suspended light ceiling panel
Egg crate
Louver

You all are so amazing! Thank you so much. I had to walk around most the store and I was about to give up and find a salesperson when I found them. They are HUGE! I bought 3... for now... lol. And then I went and had a couple guys cut me the lumber I'm going to build an aquarium stand with.

If you haven't had the lumbar cut yet and feel handy.. .. A mitre box and saw is relatively inexpensive.

How do you all use the egg crate in the tanks? I am upgrading soon and trying to get some ideas.

If you go to the pictures and DIY sections, there's a few tank builds, crabitat journals, decor consultations etc.

I use it for the base of background, making shelves, platforms on top and ramps in my water pools. For backdrops I cut it down so it will go all the way to the bottom of the tank. The substrate helps hold it in place and add a few Fluker's Tension Rods up high to keep it from leaning. I attach wheels, and shower caddies to it. They stay put when zip tied.
I found it's easiest to use a good set of big diagional cutters to getting nice clean cuts. I have a similar set like these I abused for years when I worked construction. They still work great. They are probably 16-17 years old.

I am working on a new tank and was wondering about covering it with cocofiber or just leaving it? I have seen it both ways and wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are to each?

I found the tension rods on amazon but they don't seem long enough. They extend to 15" but I'm doing a 75 gal. I think I need the rod to extend to at least 16, 17 inches. I think curtain rods would be too long.
