I’m a noob and just started crabbing in October. I upgraded from a 20 gal to a 40 gal about a month ago. (I already know about the substrate/play sand mix i’m aware I don’t have enough right now and it’s my next purchase don’t worry). I began creating climbing stands and other household items to craft things together but i’m not all that happy with the way things look. I plan on taking some stuff out and adding some new things in if you guys are open to giving me some ideas. I’m a little embarrassed of my crabitat and i’ve seen all the d.i.y projects in here and it puts me down a little lol. I’m not all that creative and if you guys could give me tips on what to buy/where to buy and what sizes are good for my 40g that would be great! ImageImageImage

Actually it looks great! Only a couple of things I would suggest. The pools need to be deep enough for them to fully submerge with a safe way in and out. And a digital therm/hygro is much more accurate. Just curious, you have the food dish tied down? Do you cut the zip ties when you feed them?

I was thinking of that when I saw other peoples water bowls. I currently have 4. 2 smaller (fresh&salt) for the smaller crabs and 2 larger ones (fresh&salt) for the larger crabs. They all end up going in all of the 4 bowls though. What do you suggest for water bowls and deep enough that they are basically swimming in it? And yes I already plan on getting a couple of digital ones to hang around the crabitat:) && yes the plastic white food dish is ziptied down to the climbing stand because I didn’t want it on the ground to get dirty and lose food && also they’re ziptied down because they are lightweight and I didn’t want my crabs tipping them over and dumping all the food out. Yes the long ends of the zipties I cut them all down because I didn’t want them in the way of the crabs.

I think it looks fab, the only thing i would add for visual interest is some greenery. Some vines to fill that empty space above all the climbing areas would look nice, and offer them some climbing space.

What kind of greenery? The plastic ones in the reptile/aquatic section?

Yes. You can even get it at the dollar store. Just boil it for 5 minutes first.

Yep. Basically what I was going to suggest. :) i wouldn't reccomend boiling plastics, a simple soak in warm water (nit enough to melt the plastic) or a warm water/vinegar mix and your good to go.

Just stay away from plants thats got glitter, plants that's been painted or has additives to look pretty (like fake water droplets). Both silk and plastic can be used.

Do you have a way of heating the tank? Also how deep is your sub?
