Hope everyone is safe. I'm taking the time to get the lid done on this new 125g. Last time I had a sliding lid, a crab escaped and climbed down to the lower apartment. (Recovered and is still alive).
Its been a pain to move around but I have the PVC in and the lid is technically done but I need a way to secure the acrylic to the tank when it's closed. Cuz right now crabs could totally push through the front and back ends of each door. I tried magnets, didn't work. I was thinking two weighted handles on either end. Don't want to buy and cut heavier acrylic. Thoughts?

DIY Lid
Re: DIY Lid
I’m a heavy lid taper. Lol! I tape the crap out of my smaller tank lids. I use the strapping tape with the string stuff in it. I fold the end so I can grab it and re-use the same pieces of tape for quite awhile. It doesn’t look the greatest but I had one of our Es get out once and I said never again! Would Velcro strips work?

Sorry I just realized how grainular those photos are. They slide forward so I'm not sure how taping would work. Velcro may be an option though, hmm

I watch a guy on you tube that does bunches of stuff with aquariums, he did one where he glued a type of latch on it, also a hinge. Ummm, serpadesigns I think, something close to that. Might be worth a look at.

I can hear my 75g whispering from the barn.

Re: DIY Lid
Thanks for the inspiration. I ended up using the J channel gutter lining at home Depot and my left over acrylic from the tortoise enclosure.
I squished the j channel down with pliers for less wiggle room and added a washer and magnet to hold the front end down. Best glue by far for the outside stuff was the hot glue. PVC is siliconed on the inside.
Next step is to get working on some big ol pools. While I work on that let's take a poll. Who thinks I should move my three crabs into the 125g and use the 55g for acclimation for the new crabs? Vs who thinks I should put new crabs into the 125g for acclimation and then add my current crabs over?
