DIY 20 gallon

Post by Happyghetti » Tue Mar 31, 2020 7:56 pm

Hi! I had two 10 gallons and my 4 hermies DESPERATELY needed an upgrade. So I decided, why dont I take the glass panels out of two sides of the aquariums and connect them together? Well I got the glass panels out buuuuuut heres the situation. The two aquariums are different brands so they have some differences, there is a bit of a gap between the two of the aquariums. If anyone has ideas on how to attach these two aquariums together and close that gap I'd love to know!Image

Can you download the Tapatalk app? It makes it easy to attach pics to any post.

You’ll have to either use the Tapatalk mobile app or link to another website where your image is being hosted.

I think i'd just get some clamps and a ton of aquarium sealant at this point. Or take all the glass apart and build a wood frame to mount it on, but thats a whole different project. If you use aquarium sealant on the whole thing itll still be a weak point in the middle you'll probably have to at least reinforce the bottom frame of the aquarium with some wood or something

Or just put the side glass back on them and make one into a jungle gym/climbing area and put it on top of the other tank upside down

An update on the project, my dad helped me build a framework to keep these two together, and we used silicone to fill in the gaps and I'll be setting up the tank tomorrow, I'm just glad I can get these crabs into a proper-sized habitat. Hopefully the crabs down melting will come up soon so I can move them when it's all set up! I also get to upgrade their water dishes and light fixture! Very nice! I definitely wouldn't have had the patience to build that! Image
Everything looks great! Just a note on your shells though, I noticed a lot of them have oval or slender/small openings. Purple Pinchers tend to prefer shells with round openings, like turbos. Here's the HCA's guide to shells for different species.
