Cork Board background - climbable?

Post by pepita » Sun Apr 11, 2021 7:18 pm

Hi, I was wondering if anyone uses regular ol cork board as a background, and if so, are the hermit crabs able to climb it? I'm in the process of setting up a new crabitat and I'm agonizing over what to use for the walls. I definitely want the back and sides to be fully climbable. I was thinking about using those faux boxwood mats for the back and then maybe cork board for the sides, like this: https://corkhouse.com/collections/decor ... -tiles-3mm. But I wasn't sure if they would be able to climb the cork since it's so flat.

I kinda think they could. They always surprise me with their climbing skills. Would be fun to watch them try anyway! Lol. Check out coconut climbing walls too...mine love theirs!

Cork flooring may be an issue because of the glues used. It's some pretty powerful stuff and would off gas for a long time inside the tank.

There are fullly natural cork tiles made for animal terrariums, and they have a great texture to them. https://zoomed.com/natural-cork-tile-background/
