Questions about 29 gallon tank

Hello,
over the next week or so I am going to be setting up my 29 gallon tank and have some questions.
1. I have a hinged glass lid for the tank- how do I secure it so crabs can't possibly escape? Duct tape?
2. For the tank I also have an aquarium light. Do I put in on the inside of the lid, the outside of the lid or on the side of the tank?
Thank you

Hi! As long as your glass lid is made specifically for 20 gallon long/29 gallon tanks, the tank itself should have a lip the lid sits right on. Once the lid is in there, if you don’t plan on taking the whole top off for a while and only using the hinged opening, you could absolutely duct tape the larger side down around all 3 sides. If you want to weigh down the front, you can always use some kind of pretty decor!

As for your lights, if they are regular aquarium lights/LED lights, you can put them on top of the glass lid, secure it underneath the glass lid (I personally don’t do that in case it falls into the substrate and so I don’t have to keep my lid propped open for wiring), or mount it onto one side of the tank. It’s your personal preference, really!!

Just as a note, if you are using UVB lighting, the UVB rays cannot penetrate through glass or acrylic.

Hope this helps!!
