Apoxie Sculpt

Post by CrabbyLover77 » Sat Sep 04, 2021 7:03 pm

Hi everyone!

I was thinking of making some diy crabitat items and came across Apoxie-Sculpt. The maker of the clay says it is aquarium safe, and I read on some aquarium forums that it is safe. Do you think making some hermit decor with it would be ok too?

Thanks!Image

Aquarists have it harder since they have to worry about leaching, so if they approve it should be fine.

I wonder if you could use it to also repair holes in shells. Its so frustrating when you find the perfect shell only to discover a hole on it!

Omgosh! What a wonderful idea! I have a couple of shells with tiny holes that need repaired. It would be perfect for that! Thank you so much for the idea!

The AS is a bit tough to work with. It doesn't hold it's shape like Sculpey Clay does. I tried to make a hide for the crabs but it kept collapsing on itself. I found a little jar I didn't need and molded the clay around that and made a little crab climber instead. It looks so silly but hopefully the crabs will use it lol. It does dry rock solid in 24 hours, no baking/firing required.Image

How cool! Had no idea this stuff existed. Now I’ll consume myself with making them more stuff, lol.

I never knew it existed either! Found it on Amazon. It is expensive though. It cost $45 for 4 lbs. Or you can get 2lbs for $25. There's 2 tubs, parts A and B. You have to mix equal amounts together then let it sit for 5 mins. Then you have 1-3 hours to work with it before it starts to harden up. I wish it would hold it's shape like Sculpey Clay does, but it doesn't. It tends to collapse in on itself. So I'm thinking I'll take a trip to the dollar store to find stuff I can cover in the Apoxie Sculpt. Maybe make some hideouts and whatnot. ImageImage

Ps- Here's the link to what I bought:

I don't want everyone to be jealous (LOL NOT!Image), but here are two little bowls I made with the Apoxie Sculpt. I put my worm castings in them and put one in each tank. Looks like the crabbies in the big tank ate out of it. ImageImage

I made these Hermie bridges with the Apoxie Sculpt. I used the Apoxie to weigh down the bottom, and also to hide the zip ties. When I get some extra money, I might purchase the colored Apoxie to brighten things up. The gray was cheaper on Amazon than all of the other colors.ImageImageImageImage

Hehe thanks! I might make one with a back so it's like a hideout rather than a bridge.
