Attaching Objects to Tank Walls and Hanging Things

Hey, I'm designing a larger tank for my crabs. I'd like to put in as many climbing opportunities as possible, so I'm going to be making a 3D background and trying to include somewhat of a second level. I also have a coco hut that I can hang. I've heard it suggested that you can use egg crate divider sheets against the walls to make a climbable surface, and to attach things to. My question is how do I actually attach the egg crate to the wall so that it won't go anywhere. Do I silicone it in place? Make it big enough that it'll go down into the sand?
does anyone have tips for how to get things to stick to walls and be stable? like a hammock or a second level. and how to best hang things in a tank? suction cups don't seem to work well on their own so I'll probably have to silicone them in place. so far hooks (with the velcro adhesive backings) also seem to be working well. but hooks won't hold the egg crate against a wall.

I use egg crate in my tanks. That makes it easy to attach containers and other things with zip ties. I have a coco hut with ladder in my 55 gal. I have it it attached using twine around the center brace.
Usually all the sand holds the crate up against the wall. Just to make sure tho, I use 2 reptile tension rods with suction cups against the crate and front glass in my 55, and one rod in my 29 gal.

You could just attach the stuff to your roof. That's what I do.

when i put egg crate into my tank i put it all the way to the bottom so that the sub actually holds it against the walls
using silicon inside the crabitat while the crabs are in there isn't recommended.. (I think) because of the fumes

thanks for all the ideas! and yeah I didn't plan to use silicone on a tank with crabs in it, I'm going to be making the 3d background in the tank that I plan on eventually moving my crabs to. Although they're in another tank at the moment.
I'll probably post about my process making the background. I think I'll end up using a few different techniques to attach different things.
