"forest"

Post by Hermitsandplants » Mon Apr 28, 2025 9:32 am

I currently have a 25 gallon cube tank and was thinking about making half of it something of a forest with small trees, vine plants, moss, maybe flowers or asparagus. Not sure what I could actually put in their, but I have some bonsai trees(blue star juniper, one other not sure the type) I was thinking about adding, and although I have never had much luck with pothos, I'll try those again. I would probably grab some moss from my backyard and isolate it for a month before adding it to a rock or smth.

I was thinking about having their freshwater dish in the middle or nearby. I have tried something similar before with fake plants, but it wasn't as nice as I had hoped, so I'm trying again.

does anyone have any tips for this or know of good soils for plants and hermit crabs?

EDIT- I have heard that flowering plants are toxic to crabs, but when looking on the safe plants list found many flowering plants. should I avoid them to be on the safe side or are flowers not a problem

If your tank is only 25 gallons, and a cube, I would probably start small with just a few plants and see how it goes.

Our guide to plants was written by our own plant expert AussieJJ - and I would absolutely trust their advice regarding what is safe and what is not. The care sheet explains everything you need to know, including substrate etc.
