$6 wal mart digital guage?

Post by Guest » Sun Jun 25, 2006 5:10 pm

I finally got to wal mart last night and spent forever looking for heating guages (then it hit me to find where outdoor thermometers would be kept and I hadn't seen any in the garden section). I looked for the kind that had two dials, one for temp and one for humidity but couldnt find them. What I did find was a cheap digital humidity guage- it was even the same price: 6.47. What I want to know is has anyone used this type of humidity guage before? it's small and grey, rectangular, runs one one AAA battery. What has been ppl's experience with cheaper (under seven dollars0 digital guages? This one reads temp and humidity and also can go back 24 hours and show the highest and lowest points for each, which will be good to let me see how well my crabbies are fairing at night, if they're too cold.

I have about 4 of those, LOL. I think they're great, I've never had a problem with one. I tested all of them, and they are all mostly accurate-----only a degree or two, or a humidity point or two, off.

I have 2 of the exact same ones except mine are both thermometers and hydrometers. They were about the same price and I have used them about a year both running on the original battery. They are quite accurate and will never use anything else. :D

cool! Looks like I found a real bargain! When I bought the flukers ones, the pet store lady was talking to me about how they use them in their store and they're pretty accurate, they sell a lot, blah blah blah (of COURSE they sell a lot if thats the only one yall carry! but I digress...)
and she mentioned that she keeps a digital one in her house for her animal and how she can flip back and see the high/low points for temp and for humidity, and hers was around 20 dollars or so. So it was hard for me to believe that i could have a good one on myhands but i bought it b/c it was the only one there and it was the same price as the other ones ppl had talked about, so I just figured wal mart upgraded.

I have to say I am very very jealous of all of you people that have the 6 dollar humidity gauge from walmart. I have a walmart right across the street from my house and they do not have nor have they ever had the gauge all of you talk about for 6 dollars. They have every other kind of thermometer there but the only one that measures the humidity is the atomic weather station they sell lol. Now that would take up at least half of my 40L tank.

The Wal-Mart closest to where I live doesn't carry them either, however other ones that are close enough do, and I buy them when I'm in the area. I've had one stop working after a couple of months. The digital part just stopped being readable. However, I hear that the more expensive ones have the same thing happen. I'd rather replace a 6 dollar one all the time then a more expensive one!

We bought a "good" guage before we found these. While it still works, I prefer these. They are easier to read (MUCH bigger display) and at $7 a pop, I don't feel nearly so annoyed if it dies before I think it should have.
I've had two die ( I'm pretty sure due to my negligence - not cautious enough misting ) but with three tanks, I'm still not up to what it would have cost going with the "good" pet brand.

I haven't personally checked the accuracy, but it seems to be reliable based on other folks reports.

Maybe someone whos Wal-Mart carries them can buy them and ship them to those whos do not (and get paid back of course) ... I'm not sure if mine does... the one in NY where I used to live did and I bought mine then...

Feather where in NY did you used to live? I live on Long Island and there are 3 Walmarts within about 10 miles of me and NONE of those have that gauge lol. Of course none of those are super Walmarts they are just Walmart so that may have something to do with it.

I lived in Elmira, NY. The Wal Mart was just a regluar Walmart... and it was back in the hardware section... The Walmart was in Big Flats, NY. Too far for you to drive for a gage. :) We have realtives in Garden City, NY and it took us about 4 1/2 hours to drive there. If you have realtives in other areas ask them to check their Walmarts for you.

Just so you know lol. Your relatives live like two towns away from us. Which on Long Island is like a 5 minute ride away lol.

Wow that is close... I knew both places were close to NYC but didn't realize they were that close to each other. :)

I just recently bought one for my main tank. The humidty continues to register up in the 90's, which I think is inaccurate. Is there some way that I can test to see if it's reading correctly?
