which is better?
I can't decide which one to get and can't tell which one of the economy packs would give me more substrate=/.

I think I'd go for the Eco-Earth. More people seem to use it, but the choice is yours. The other one, I think, is cheaper and probably makes just as much. Either way, I'm sure the crabs will love either choice so just pick the cheaper one. Less money is better and you can buy some other things with the remainder for your crabs.

I have not used Forest bedding, but I have heard it is a little chunkier than EE. It is a personal preference from there.
It is my understanding that they make about the same amount of substrate.
My EE is fairly even consistency and I like that softness, but I have heard that Forest bedding has variety in sizes and the user preferred that in her crab tank.

I have had hermit crabs for a couple of years and still have most of my originals. I joined LHC over a year ago and have learned a lot about crab care there. I have about 50 crabs (PP, Straw and E) in my 130 gallon tank that is a feature point of my living room.

I'm a bit late in replying... Anyway, I used to use FB and it is mostly the same as the EE. Actually, I prefer the FB because it seems to expand faster and doesn't have as many lumps. Now I use EE, because I can get it in a 3-pack (which is less expensive than buying 3 seperate FB bricks).
